I saw this algae if it is algae growing in my tank after I bought a plant from Wal Mart. It's starting to spread and I need to find a way to get rid of it. If you look closely to the wood you can see small fuzzy cotton like algae. There is some normal algae but there is also some other algae too.

it's Black Beard Algae (BBA) -- the gift that keeps on giving! best bet is to dip the affected plants & decorations in 1:20 bleach/water solution for 2 minutes before it gets more established.

this is awful stuff i removed all my plants to stop it just kepted the wood and rockand the plecs keep it under control

yes just submerge in 1 part bleach 20 parts water for 2 minutes then rinse well with tap water. you could use water with extra dechlorinator in it to be safe, but i don't think that's really necessary. it's a good idea to do this to all plants before you put them in your tank.
