Thanks so Much i did the bleach thing and it worked! I was really scared about bleach poisoning to my fish so I rinsed the decoration and both of my plants VERY well thanks!
bleach works.. however im not a fan of putting bleach in/around my tanks
hydrogen peroxide (H2O2.. water is H2O.. so its just water with an extra oxygen atom) also works well.. plants/gravel/wood/ect can be dipped in a straight solution.. it can also be "painted" on with a brush/cloth/qtip for more delicate plants..
it can also be injected into the tank (works on acrylic since scraping is not such a good idea).. put a papertowel over the algea and then used a syringe/turkey baster to directly spot treat the area.. i have not had much luck with this method
it takes a few days for it to work.. the beard algae turns red/pink then dies (snails will eat it once its dead)
obviously dont dump gallons of it in the tank.. ive used about a shotglass worth in my planted 55 for one treatment...
this stuff is a royal pain in the butt to get rid of.. if its on gravel/wood.. removing the gravel/wood and letting it dry out for a few days does not kill it... it WILL come back once you put it back in the tank... boiling will kill it..
blacking out the tank does not work.. and ive yet to be able to outplant it (ive had it grow on hornwort)
mollies and amano shrimp will eat it.. however dont get a fish to do your job
