Guppy's pike used a rock to break the tank.

For some reason that doesnt seem like a smart thing to do.

Just beacuse it is illegal in the US, it does not make suicide stupid, especially if you are already serving a life sentence.

I just found that amusing....it makes me want to get pikes that much more:)

The pike took its secret with him into his grave and its real intentions will remain a mistery forever. We can only speculate about its real motives.

My guess is, it wanted to p!ss off its owner and it seems to have succeeded as Guppy did sound kinda bitter when telling about it. Actually I don't think this pike wanted to end its life. It my have been a cry for help.

But that's not our business. Pet-owner relationships are complex and, as this dolphin-wedding thread demonstrated, are sometimes very emotional.

Oscars are relatively dumb fish. They will bite your finger when yoou feed them. What they are really good at, is pretending. They will play dead until smaller fish approach and eat them. That is difficult to observe in captivity though. People who say that Oscars are most intelligent just never kept any smarter fish.
My pike (Crenicichla Semifasciata) will let me pet his head but if he does not know you, you better keep your hands out of the tank. He does not chase fish around the tank, but if anybody bothers him, he will teach them a lesson, myself included. I put a 10" Oscar in his tank once. The pike showed no interest. But when the Oscar attacked him, the pike instantly bit Oscar's pectoral fin off at the root. I had to safe the poor pale Oscar. Oscars are whimps., dumb and slow.

You seen Oscar using tools?

I'd have to agree. Oscars are very personable but that does not mean smart. Mine gets so overanxious at feeding time it misses pieces of food that fall to the gravel and keeps looking up top. I keep my oscar by itself in a 50G. My oscar also doesn't fight back too much when attacked even by cichlids half it's size, but bullies around smaller fish that won't fight back. He/she is all "talk", kind of a pussy. They can be quite pretty though. It does make a great pet by itself. I've never had a pike cichlid and would love to have one someday.

Oscars are great fish. I am not sure why they are called Oscars, but they are the greatest actors of all fish, look pretty and would deserve an Academy Award.
However, like most actors, they are greedy and dumb whimps as well.
