Because it is perfectly safe for cops to drive and not pay attention to the road. Same with doubling the speed limit. If the laws are what is required to be safe, shouldn't they all have crashed and burned by now? (which brings us to likestofish's post)

Along with this, another pet peeve of mine is when people say that they "could care less" when they really mean that they "couldn't care less".
