Well, how do you think the sale rep at Petco felt? You felt an obligation to jump in a private conversation between the customer and the rep. Then you post your account of the event on the web. If you post something on the web, it belongs to everyone, and everyone has the right to critically discuss it. What's good for the goose is good for the gander.

Philly this seems to be something that is very important to you

First off, Cig smokers arent ignorant. They know the damage they are doing to themselves and they are will to trade that for the comfort of nicotine. People can make their own personal choices about what they do in life, But ignorance is not acceptable.
For example if some guy is blowing his stogie smoke in the face of a small child knowingly, Step in! Unless you dont have the time to look out for a childs best interests.

I smoke, and I wouldn't consider myself ignorant. It's an informed decision combined with an addictive personality. It's better than when doctors back in the 50's were still recommending cigarettes to their uninformed patients. :)

Anyway, I don't have to worry about someone seeing me blow smoke in my kids' faces and confronting me about it. They smoke their own cigs just fine. My 5 year old is even getting good at blowing pretty big smoke rings. Of course I only let them smoke after they finish their dinner...

If you didn't pick up on the sarcasm there, you're taking yourself too seriously.

I'll throw my hat in PhillyDog's ring though. Nothing wrong with sharing info with another hobbyist, but interrupting a potential sale in progress with information intended to potentially stop that sale is frankly just rude. You are a guest in the store, and you're actively trying to make them lose money (tantamount to stealing?). If I have a guest in my house and he steals something from me I'm going to boot his ass out to the curb with the quickness. I don't care what the intentions for the theft were.

I think a lot of people these days spend too much time butting their noses in where they don't belong, instead of minding their own dam(n) business.

maybe it is and maybe it isn't, but he is one of the few people making sense on this mind-numbing thread

if you're gonna step in -- at an LFS, or anywhere else -- I would hope your intent is to be educational, not confrontational ...

You can lead a horse to water but can't make it drink......

^^So true... I don't mean to be rude. I was just trying to show the OP that we all need to be a little more considerate of others. If I've upset anyone, I apologize. It's just that if we all show our fellow man a little more consideration, the world will be a much better place with less conflict and less war. It all starts at the most basic of levels. Remember the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."

#1) i do not assume. you and i both live in a country that has gone halfway to ***** because of big companies and corporations, petco and petsmart both being one of those.

petcos and petsmarts don't even combine to be 1 percent of why the economy is the way it is... but lets steer away from politics as to not get this thread closed

#2) around here LFS are conformed of people who are just as addicted to keeping fish and other creatures as both you and i are. they share the same passion.

where you live.
but are you sure its that way everywhere?

(assumptions)

#3) i did not steal any sales, i told the customer to look into the situation through his own research. i did not tell him to not buy goldfish from petco.

you clearly said you would fight to have them lose sales... read your post

#4) really? because i have 3 within a 20 minute drive from my house. all three struggling because of big corporations, which might i add again destroyed this country.

large corporations have an impact on this country, but if your basing your argument on this then back it up. give us an example if you believe this so much.

#5) once again... i have never personally delt with an employee at a local fish store by me that wasn't some sort of an aquarium and fish keeping cyclopedia.

encluding large chain lfs's?

#6) once again.. again.. i do not assume.

actually it appeared to me you did

#7) you must have some type of blurred vision going on, because i am not your kid man!! i do not need your permission to speak or when to speak.

i never said you need my permission
i always have a slight defect in my right eye which it can not turn right

please do not insult my vision again

oh yeah, thanks for reading this...

why your welcome

and thank you for reading my response

but i must tell you it seems you took more offense to my post then i intended for that i am sorry. reading over it again i believe i could of re-worded a few things
and i also i currently do not possess a kid-man so you are correct you are not my kid-man
:)

Sadly people need jobs and will do anything to keep it. Those would love it and would try to do what is right for the animals don't seem to get the job.

It really has very little to do with the people who have the jobs. Much more to do with the consumers. You are a consumer, do you support Petco/Petsmart with your dollar?

Actually I go to petsmart all the time. I pick up my bloodworms and anything else I need for my dogs, cats, and fish. Have I bought fish from them... Yes.... Do I have any fish store near me that I like. No and most are Koi dealers. If I had a fish store near me that sold freshwater I would give them my money.
