i went yesterday to get some amquel+ and coralife 50/50's
and noticed that their fish where well taken care of
as they usually always are at this one
the only complaint i have is the 5 8 inch oscar in the 20 gallon
with hole in the head
the betta fish where nothing like i've ever seen before
BEAUTIFUL
so i'm going back today to get another
since i bought what looks like a white dragon HM plaket

You are very lucky! My Petco has dead and dying fish in every tank, and the poor bettas look pathetic. This is why I go to the much cleaner, and much larger Petsmart up the street. I guess it depends on the location and the people working in the store. Good luck with your bettas!

It varies widely from store to store. Some are like heaven some are more like walking through a hospice, a really bad hospice.

i know
I'm just lucky to have a heaven
but the petsmart
pet supermarket
and of course wal-mart
are cemeteries

it's the complete opposite here
the people are pretty fish smart for once
i'll get some pics up as soon as i can find the camera

The Petcos around us aren't terrible, but they are not as good as the Petsmarts around us. We just recently "discovered" an awesome LFS about an hour and a half from us and are really happy to know about it :)

Petco... It's where the pets go... to die!

Thats no joke! Ive seen alot of CA/SA cichlids all beat up there, im talkn about fins and scales missing. They need to take down their sale prices and beg people to take in these fish for FREE and give them some real love & care!

The 2 petco's that are driving distances from me (5miles) have drastically reduced their fish section. They've totally removed their saltwater tanks and replaced half the freshwater tanks with plants. All i see now are 3 tanks of assorted africans, 6 tanks of goldfish, and maybe 1 tank full of oscars.

The petsmart on the other hand has expanded their fish section and looks pretty nice. I rarely ever see dead fish and no sick fish. I asked one of the reps there and they actually quarantine their sick fish O_O. I would buy from petsmart, but their prices are way too high.
