OK, so i just setup a 20 gal tank like a month ago and put bacteria/water from another established tank into it, put in a few tetras and they did fine. Now a month later i went to petco and the guy wouldn't sell me an anglefish cause he said i dont have enough good bacteria. Is he an idiot or is he correct?

He's an ignorant idiot! Bring him a water sample and some literature. Should have went to another employee too. Takes about a week and use biozyme to speed things up. At least he kinda cares! Just school em!!!

most petstores dont refuse to sell you something, 99% will glady take your money lol just bring him a water sample to test and im sure thatll solve whatever probloms youre having, unless he is actually right haha

yeah....usually they'd just void the return policy if anything but i wouldn't even bother with a water sample. none of their business

Pretty similar thing happened to me. I bought 10 gold barbs as dithers for 2 clown loaches cause they were on sale. When I told that lady to get them for me she didn't ask me how long my tank was established, what filter i was running or anything like that. She just asked for tank size and I said 20. She got extremely rude and kept talking to me like I was an idiot saying I could not add so many fishes in at once. She took away my guarantee and I didn't care. I was getting annoyed at how rude she was. As I was driving home somehow the bag OPENED and half the water spilled out. That really got me ticked so I called and filed a complaint while I acclimated the fish. Never setting foot in that petco again

pet store employees at major chains arent hired because they know what they are talking about most of them have to look at the tags to tell you what fish are in the tank ! most exceptions to this work in smaller pet stores and have great insight
i can quick cycle a tank as fast as the pump will clear the water up take a bio sponge or bio media from another tank and wash it off in the new tank when its full of water i then add stress zyme (there are other versions that work equally as well )and then as soon as the water clears add fish works quite well i trust it enough to introduce 50 $ fish directly into a tank from a shipping bag never had an issue .

I don't think it's their choice, and I have only ONCE been asked by an employee "what size tank do you have?" (When I bought a JackD). Unless you actually see a sign being displayed in that store, saying they can refuse fish sales to a customer, due to an employees discretion, go back and tell/ask the manager.:irked: BAN THAT STORE EMPLOYEE!!hahaha!

Well , if you consider that a 20 gallon tank is too small for an angel fish, maybe she did you (and the fish) a favor?

Actually they are getting rude with you guys for the wrong reasons. I don't see a problem with your tanks being cycled. But I do see overstocking issues. Angels should not be put in a 20 gallon.
