Nice green find!

I just rehomed mine to its own tank, as it was beating up and getting beaten up by any of its other tank mates. Now he has a 30G all to himself, with a 55 as a back up.

Yup. 100% postive it's a greenie. Pretty guy too (or girl). He'll color up real nice with some quality fish food . Got a big ol' mouth on him too, even for a greenie (that's a dead give away if it's a green. The hybrids pretty much always have smaller mouthes, and this guy's is huge).

lol, i work at petco and periodically pull those green sunfish and tadpoles out. what did they charge you for it?

Definately a green, they are a great fish to have. they were my first native that I had ever had bout 9 years ago. They can be trained to pellet foods easily and they are strong jumpers so you will want a tight fitting lid. The 55 will be used for its adult size (can get up to about 10") and will eat most tankmates so be watchful

Usually the feeder minnows are raised in big outdoor pens, so it's not uncommon for other fish to get mixed in. I have asked at my local petco and they say they get them occasionally, but they have never been available when I have been there.

The red on the operculum makes me think it's more than just a green sunfish.
