MVMS is my school. last april about 65 bettas and 55 goldfish needed new homes (They were taken from a HORRIBLE science project taking place at my school where goldies and a bettas and whatever else people wanted to put in there (such as guppies, crawfish, african dwarf frogs, african clawed frogs, plecos, giant tadpoles, etc) were placed into a 2 litre bottle with no water changes and no food for OVER A MONTH!!!! I took in all that the stupid science teacher would let me and tried to rehome them)..... The majority died throghout the expiriment, but the hundred or so fish I rescued all got new homes from people on various forums and what not. Anyway, that is something done EVERY year at my school, and I decided it needs to stop. I wrote a long detailed letter to the principal and gave her care sheets on the 17 most commonly used animals in these experiments (there was a top level two littre bottle also where people put hermit crabs, lizards, Mice, ect). I started a petition to go aroujd my school, but I think I also made an online petition so that I can get some more signatures, and more people saying that this is wrong. We can stop the deaths, and the cruelty at my school with names and notes. Send me an email at alexastone1@yahoo.com telling my principle why these experiments unneceptable and I will print it out and give it to her and our board members. Thanks! Please sign the petition because it will make a world of difference to the animals used in these expiriments!

* know that these are not monster fish(aside from the plecos, which are juvies when used) , but I need as much support from as many people as possible to end this expirement! PLease send this on to all fish/reptile owners/lovers that you know! Thanks!

eco columns are pretty great when they are done correctly..

if your teachers are allowing animals/fish that could not possiably survive to be placed in them then not only does the animal/fish have a 0% chance of surviving but the student also has a 0% chance of passing which is a 100% failure by the teacher...

parents do not care if a few goldfish die.. however they care a lot when 1-their child is set up to fail.. 2-their child is given a pass when they failed...

this battle has been fought and won many many times.. but everytime you focus on a few dead critters you are wasting your time..

What exactly is this experiment what does it consist of and what is the purpose?

making an eco system in soda bottles..

sorta like the movie bio-dome... only smaller..

Ok, well if they stopped cramming 5 goldfish 2 bettas ad a pleco pet bottle maybe I would. and I am not focussing n "A few dead fish" almost all die every time.

you are still missing the point.. no one cares about the fish... (big picture time).. if you forced every parent to watch a thousand hours of video showing nothing but fish in bottles dying... at the end of it.. they still would not care..
if you show them that the school administration is allowing their childs teacher to give them a graded task that has no option but to fail.. that their children are failing to make the assignment work correctly and are still given a passing grade... parents will care...
if you had 100% death.. thats still "a few dead fish"... i know what im talking about when it comes to this stuff.. ive got vegan tattoos older than you.. an arguement of cruelty has never been won with an sob story..

Chester way to poop on a high schooler. I understand what you are saying but she obviously is passionate about this. Hopefully someone has some other good solutions or suggestions for her. Yes it is only a few fish, but why do kids has to sit in class and watch them slowly get sick and die in a plastic bottle? There's no point to it if the experiments constantly fail.

To vegan chick, I hope you can get the results you want.

I remember making those in school. We didn't put that sort of animal in them though. The idea was to put in some soil and a plant(s), maybe some worms, and something like a small vegetarian insect that could conceivably eat off the plant, but not eat the whole plant so everybody died. Carnivorous fish like bettas, frogs, lizards...fail.

You're science teacher isn't very good. Anyone with any sense can see that this 'experiment' cant sustain any fish or complex organism for very long.
I agree with your petition keeping fish this way is just as wrong as unfiltered goldfish bowls
