Does anyone have any experience keeping these beautiful fish?

I know a limited amount about them; they are expensive, are sorta like tropheus in care, and get large.

Aside from that they are still unknown to me.

Any tips/suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

You will need a large tank. They are very aggressive towards their own kind. Although the Red Bulus, seem to be less aggressive them some other variants. At least that what I've heard. You don't want to many males, they will fight. If you start with juvies, you have a better chance of the males co-existing. Feed them like tropheus, lots of veggie flakes, greens, shrimp and a quality pellet. Lots of clean water. They can take big water changes.

Ensure you have more caves, caverns, nooks, etc than you have fish. They will fight over real estate. If possible, place sight breaks to decrease this aggression.

Should I even put rocks/decorations in there? No rocks, no territories, no aggression?

Thinking about putting these guys in the 300gal. Will be interesting to see how they do. I managed to find some for fairly cheap, albeit F1 and F2, but that doesn't bother me much.

I personally don't like bare tanks. If your starting out with juvies, I say aquascape it. If they get aggressive you can always remove everything. Hopefully there will be more and more f1's and F2's available.

Petrochromis is fairly easy to take care off. I have 15 red bulu and 40 petro flametail in my 135gallon. Make sure u overkill on filtration .uploadfromtaptalk1391809628808.jpg
