so a few months ago I got a great deal on a 125 with everything, but it came with some fish I didn't really want. So I called pets inc. (located in tempe, AZ) to see if I could get some cash or store credit for them. the said not until their remodeling was done, so I waited a while and finally yesterday they were finished and willing to take them. so the fish they got:
4 female aulonocara rubescens
1 full grown silver dollar
1 12 inch common pleco
2 full grown striped raphael cats
2 giant danios
1 young fake red terror
1 unidentified synodontus cat.

What I got; he offered 12 dollars store credit, which I said, "that probably sounds alright , do you mind if i look around for a bit first?"
he said ok, I found they had a deal 20 neon tetras for $15 so i went and asked him if we could just trade straight up for those, he said that was fine and I said "its a deal then" and shook his hand. I will also point out that he had already taken my other fish out of the bucket and put them in various store tanks while I was browsing. so he bagged the neons and said he just had to explain it to the cashier who also happened to be the head manager.

we waited in line for a while, talking about fish and stuff, then when we got to the front this is what took place; "this nice gentleman brought in some very nice fish and I offered him 12 dollars in credit for them and he suggested that we just trade for 20 neon tetras." the head manager just looked at me with seeming contempt and replied;"12 sounds fine" then the guy that I had been talking to looked at me and said "sorry he's my boss." and I said "are you kidding? a deals a deal!" the employee looked ahsamed of himself and looked at the ground and walked away mumbling "have a nice day" and the head manager had a half grinning look of victorious defiance as i took out 4 dollars to give to him. I have given them hundreds if not thousands of dollars in business in the past, and thats how I get treated? I decided i am boycotting that store.(unfortunately it is the best fish store in miles):irked:

who thinks I am justified to be angry over this?

i see both sides kinda. was it the skinny guy with the black goatee? prolly the same guy that told me oscars grew to 4ft lol. anyways 4dollars isnt much but a deal is a deal and they should have stould by that. on a flip side the ocean floor stock is getting far far better

no, the fish guy I talked to his name was bruce. A little shorter, witha a little bit of a gut and light colored hair. I don't know the managers name, but he must have been like 6'6"tall.

I see both sides. The guy who offered you the deal probably didn't realize that his manager would come down hard over a few neon tetras. He was ashamed to misinform you, and since they didn't see eye to eye, thier dispute was settled with you getting the short end of the stick. Still though, you knew you were getting a better deal by trading for the neons instead of 12 bucks store credit, so when they gave you exactly what they initially said, I would still be mad initially but realize later it was just bad communication on thier part later.

if you got there talk to the taller guy in fw kinda goofy looking brown hair dont remember his name but has always been real good to me he will prolly be the busiest one there he is bout 6'4ish i would guess

or you could have posted the fish online and made way more off of them...

but when you trade fish in you are going to get hosed... they are doing you a favor taking them... so they feel they can do what they want.... if you spend lots of time and money there... get to know the guys and the manager and over time you will get better deals for it....

I used too manage that department(fish) and can relate to what you are saying.

I would of "straight traded" no problem,as mentioned.

btw. "Drywash aquarium society" was a great local club;worth checking into if your not already familiar.

i could have been worse you could have stuck around to watch them put the 5-20 maybe even more a piece price tag on the fish you just got 12 bucks for.
yeah, I wouldn't doubt if they make at least $100 off of all the fish they got from me. but that wasn't my issue, business is business, and money has to be made. it was them going back on a deal, regardless of whether it was the employee who made it or not. I should have said something like ; is 4 dollars worth losing a customer for life?

I would be very angry if I were you.
A) $12 for those fish is a rip off, and everyone knows it
B) Being confronted by the manager at cash where you can't really argue is low
C) The manager assuming that $12 is suitable compensation for your fish when he didn't even know what you'd brought is just mindless. What if you'd brought in a couple of black skirts or something...
D) The employee agreeing to a deal without first consulting the manager is a blunder on the employee's part. Not only do you leave unhappy, but he's probably gonna catch it from the manager later.

I would definitely boycott the store if I were you. I am full of righteous anger.
