I would boycott the store. Next time you make a major purchase, stop in with it and show the manager what his $4 really got him. I am boycotting The Hidden Reef, the biggest fish store in my area of Pa. There are other places to get wahat you want.

dude it was 3 bucks for 20 neon tetras, i think that you are getting over upset about it

A) $12 for those fish is a rip off, and everyone knows it
B) Being confronted by the manager at cash where you can't really argue is low
C) The manager assuming that $12 is suitable compensation for your fish when he didn't even know what you'd brought is just mindless. What if you'd brought in a couple of black skirts or something...
D) The employee agreeing to a deal without first consulting the manager is a blunder on the employee's part. Not only do you leave unhappy, but he's probably gonna catch it from the manager later.

I would definitely boycott the store if I were you. I am full of righteous anger.
thank you, my thoughts exactly.

brtnboy449, its not about the money, its about the poor way I was treated by that jack weed manager. and for the record, due to taxes on the fish it was $4, not $3

i strongly agree. i would have said no thanks and had them go recatch all my fish and sell them myself somewhere else. i say this not b/c of the mere 12 bucks but purely principle. i wolud also have stated at the register is $12 worth a loyal repeat customer? plain and simple. then he would have lost that silly grin and get up off his high horse.;)

I cant believe they did that to you...... i have had nothing but good luck with Pets inc personally. That was very short sited on the managers part, exchanging a few bucks for pissing off one dedicated aquarist is just stupid. I think i know the guy you are talking about, very tall and wears glasses.

Unfortunately there are no other LFS's in the area that compare though. There is the ocean floor, i have had nothing but bad experiences every time i go there though, plus they dont carry the selection of oddball and rare fish that pets inc does.

It is the principle, it was only $4, but he screwed a loyal customer.

In theory, that's what I would have done, but in reality, I would've just paid it, told myself I would never go there again, but go back anyway, lol. :)

It's crazy to me that the manager would trust his employee to give you the correct value of trading in fish, but not trust him enough to make a deal like that. This whole thing sounds like something a corporation would do, not a locally owned business. I traded in fish once and the manager told me the day before he would give me so much, but then the next day when I brought them in, he didn't give me as much, but he traded me straight up for a few fish that were a couple bucks more than my trade-in.

i woulda made them take all of my fish outta the various tanks and said nope, 12 dollars that ridiculous anyway my lfs woulda traded me for like 2 peacocks or sumthin for all them fish, once i traded in a 10 inch oscar and he gave me 4 baby redbellys!

boycott them, move on with your life

Hm. I've been going to PetsInc for a while and never have really had a problem with them. Usually when I bring fish to trade in I'm happy if they give me anything because the convenience of being able to unload unwanted fish without much of a hassle is a good thing.

Still, I see where you are coming from. You can't fault the dude who initially made the deal...he probably wasn't expecting you to hit a huge WALL-O-AUTHORITY on your way to the register. What the manager did seems pretty silly. In my mind, the appropriate action would have been to honor whatever deal was made then, after you left, clarified with the employee what the parameters of future deals should be.

I personally would have probably would have just accepted it. Whatever...managers can be jerks. But that's just me. It's a good store but they aren't the only operation in town. Move your dollar somewhere else if the mood should strike you.
