Petsmart and heaters

I really like the Ranco electronic temperature controllers that jehmco sells. These things are temp. spot on every time, can handle a full load 16 amps, and you can use any brand of heater with them, bypassing the cheap unreliable thermostat built in to so many heaters. They will also control a chiller if you need to use one. I have 2 500watt titanium heaters plugged into mine. The heaters are in the sump. The temp is always the same. One of the pieces of equipment I've bought for a tank.

I used to work at petsmart years ago, and I never reccomended those pos heaters. They're cheap and they kill fish. I always used vis-therms and the whisper heaters. i would trust a 10 dollar heater for the amount of money i've spent on fish. I got no problems paying 30 bucks for a heater that wont kill my fish. you can take it back however, they'll refund your money or exchange it.

Online is the way to go, you can shop arround and find some good stuff for cheap. petsolutions.com is a really good place that I just found that hasn't been mentioned on this thread so far. But for the big stuff the best place I know of is http://shop.acicorp.us/

Petsmart and Petco are the WORST stores in the stores in the world for fish. Them and Wal-Mart have no business selling fish...

I love my Ebo Jager. I have also used a Whisper from Wal Mart with success until the heater pooped out.

So I was at petsmart picking up some stuff for my fish and my mom. So at the time I had remebered my heater wasnt big enuff to heat the 30gal so I moved it to the 10gal, so therefore I need one for the 30gal. I decided why I am here why not get one, so I really didnt see a huge selectoin and there is no other lfs near by so I thought ok I'll just try the petsmart brand becuase the other one looked even cheaper. So I took it home it heat up the tank and the light came on, then the next day I go to work and it went crzy, my mom got home and my tank was heated to the 90's afraid I might lose some fish, ne who I told my mom to unplug it wait 15min then take it out. She does and we cool the tank down, no fish loss thank gosh, and when I took it out I looked at the setting it was set on LOW!! argh. so I take it back and get a dif. one then the one I get doesnt even work, so I take it back get a dif. one and same thing. so I am really irritated with them and stupid heatersQ!! So I thought Id tell everyone in my long and boring story that you shouldnt get heaters from them becuase they are crap, of course my dummyness didnt know that!

I feel sorry for u. these heaters are a waste of money as they have a 50% failure rate for me. I have like 20 of these POSes. they do not survive the test of time.

the best glass heaters are visitherms, ebo jagers lately have been crap. the best titanium/steel heaters are the WON brothers Pro Heat series, not the POS via aquas.

I paid $39.00 for a 300 watt titanium heater by ViaAqua at my LFS.
