live plants from Petsmart are ok, stick to the easy ones, like java fern, anubias, maybe amazon swords . . . if you buy their live plants out of the water tanks, make sure to quarantine them for a few days, in caes there are any parasites (they often keep fish in their plant tanks)

I don't ever buy those pre-packaged plants, which is all I ever see at Petco . . .
agreed

however the prepackeged plants at my petsmart are under a fixture and i buy them however i only buy java fern, anubias, or amazon swords because the rest aren't for auaruiums just labeled as that

at petco i noticed they werent under a fixture and that is why they were so crappy looking

Ive bought about 6 total horn wort plants from pet smart with no problems so far, also from a lfs by my house i bought a plant in one of those plastic containers thinking it probably wouldn't live but it actually has survived 3 months and looks great.

they are okay, to use just make sure it doesn't say for aquariums and terriquariums (spelling?) and only says for aquariums.

I have bought some great plants at Pet Supermarket . . . the one near me used to have a nice selection, but lately all they have is Amazon Swords (lots and lots of 'em) . . .

I think most Pet Supermarkets are in Florida and Georgia, not sure how much they have expanded beyond that . . .

I would take them out of the pots though. It will allow the roots to grow more freely.

Those look like some type of Sword? You should think about getting root tabs as those plants mainly feed with there roots (I think..). Unless you have something like flourite or plant substrate.

I have my Sword growing in my 75 gallon with flourite and the roots cover about 1/4 of the tank and it has leaves that are about 5 inches wide and 8-12 inches long.

If he takes them out the convicts will uproot them, they dig in the rocks and pull everything up including bulb plants like dwarf onion. They seem to like everything floating up at the top so they have more cover and if you try and replant it you get bit. Not that its painful its just irritating when you know in a few hours where the plants will be again.

Petco and petsmart also try to sell bamboo for use in aquariums. The petco ones are actually fully submerged, and the fish worker was telling me how the managers rules are annoying because it just slowly dies underwater.

AKA avoid bamboo.

Lucky Bamboo is great if you leave the top of it out of the water. I got one in the top of my HOB on my 26g. Its working so nicely that I want to try and figure out how to hang some off the back of my 150g. Its a very good plant... just not when fully submerged.

I really don't like either, but if I were to choose then I would go w/ petsmart. Petco's plants are often sold out of water. Some of these plants sold are terrestrial plants and don't live very long under water.
