I was in petsmart the other day looking for some new fish (after having no luck at the nicest lfs) and after waiting 20 minutes for someone to help me i told them i wanted a green terror and a bala shark they told me no...and i said why not? and they said because the green terror was labled as "aggresive" and the bala shark as "semi aggressive"....they were small fish going into i large tank..i didnt see any problems...maybe you guys do? i was so mad...i should have said "did the same people who told you that also tell you that pacus max out at 24 inches??????" (thats what the tag said on the pacus)

Ask for a manager. Problem solved. No Petsmart which is properly managed, will let you leave without solving your complaint, providing it is in their power to do so.

You don't have to tell them about your tanks or any details. You walk in, say I want this, this and this. Pay and walk out. If that doesn't happen, again, ask for a manager.

You people are hilarious. You're complaining about them not selling something, to you, that they considered incompatible just to make a sale. But you would be the first ones on the bandwagon calling for their heads for not giving someone else the third degree about their tanks. "They sold this and this fish together for this size of tank just for the money, they suck". You don't get it both ways. Maybe next time try telling them you're members of this forum and therefore not bound by traditional fishkeeping methods.

calm down man, i never burn anyone about there tanks im not an expert and its not my business....i was too flabbergasted to get a manager and i had fish waiting in the truck when it was hot outside so i didnt have time to deal with them...i explained to her why it would be ok and she said she just couldnt do it because of the label

^^Agree, agree, agree. Granted, this employeee apparently didn't know their fish, as with the proper tank, they would be fine (even though the balas are better in small groups ;)). However, like dragonfish said, if it were the other way around they would be getting criticized too. I've read on here people grilling them because they saw them selling these same fish (example) to another customer. No one's ever happy. As the first response said, ask for a manager if they don't want to sell them to you. You'll have better luck. What size tank do you have?

i misread what you said, i dont complain about them selling stuff thats incompatible either thats none of their business or mine..(except pacus i dont think petsmart should carry pacus) sure i think they should advise them if they are inexperienced fish keepers but something this trivial? and they are losing a sale!

Most of the Petcos and Petsmarts in my area ask you 101 questions before giving you a fish. It is quite irritating. They ask you all these questions about your tank, and then decide if you are going to get the fish based off their horribly inaccurate "company training". All this for fish sitting in their ammonia bath, peppered with ich.

They did that with me.. a couple years ago I was picking up a Syno. eupterus to use as a bottom feeder in my cichlid tank and i was just chatting with the lady. She asked what else was in the tank and I said an Oscar, then she put the cat back. I was like.. ummmm.. So after talking to the manager I got the cat but had to sign a waiver saying they did not have to take the fish back if it died since the Oscar would definitely kill it. It's a bunch of crap but I didn't care.. I knew more then they did about compatibility and it all worked out.
