I think its good that they care, because petsmart here don't seem to care at all. They just want to make the sale. Even if you know what you are doing, ppl who don't know you doesn't know if you are experienced or not. I am sure they deal with ppl who think fish are just fish so it doesn't matter if they die or whatever. I am not saying you are one of those ppl by any means. It's just that ppl who don't know you, just simply don't know if you are a good fish keeper or not.
I would be some what irritated too if that happened to me, but I would rather they car than to act like how they do at petsmart here.

yeah but like i said i had live fish in a hot truck so i didnt havetime to put up with all of that....but i guess it all comes down to loss prevention incase im a noob and try to bring it back and blame them

You people are hilarious. You're complaining about them not selling something, to you, that they considered incompatible just to make a sale. But you would be the first ones on the bandwagon calling for their heads for not giving someone else the third degree about their tanks. "They sold this and this fish together for this size of tank just for the money, they suck". You don't get it both ways. Maybe next time try telling them you're members of this forum and therefore not bound by traditional fishkeeping methods.

Amen

Bala sharks and green terrors even in my mind could be a bad combo. Some cichlids can be real nasty where as ive never seen a bala pick on anything it can swallow. I say this thread is the first evidence redeeming petsmarts morals. If you really wanted them you could have demonstrated your advanced fish keeping knowledge.

well i made a weak effort to do that.. i said that the tank is big, gt's arent that much more aggressive, the bala shark is a fast grower/swimmer...but she just looked at me like i was stupid

.....And they would have been fine. You have to remember you're dealing with (generally) kids looking for part time work, filling spots as asked. She probably just got a rough intro to fish a couple days prior. That's retail. My wife manages a Petsmart, so I see all the faces in and out. It's hard to find qualified people that are able to accept the pay in that type of work. Just when you get a couple people trained well in the department....schools out, and they decide they're going back to bfe for the summer! It's a touchy discussion to both sides, and unfortunately will never end......I'm just happy to hear she actually cared!!

At the store I work at, we had a lady blow up on us for asking if the tiger barbs she was buying were going in the 2.5 she was buying at the same time. She was slightly more civil when the manager asked her, and then obviously lied about a tank she had at home for them, but we sold them to her anyway. If a customer really wants the fish, we can recommend against their choices, but really the choice is up to the customer

yeah i used to work at staples so i know how the retail/corporate bs works(im 17 and i recieved no training except for some sales and customer relations, luckily i knew the electonics just because im a nerd anyone else would have been hung out to dry by some of the customers)...but i didnt think she would have got in trouble for that and she lost petsmart a sale..

And if you had heard as many stupid comments from "experts" as I, and anyone else who has worked in this environment, have listened to you might understand. I do agree with the not selling pacu statement, that is just corporate greed cashing in on the look. But PetSmart isn't the only store selling them, or giving advice, good bad and indifferent. Sorry if it sounded like I was attacking you personally, just gets tiresome hearing the constant bashing/ damned if you do, damned if you don't attitude on here.
