Ohhhh the IRONY.

I loathe the chain stores (even though there are worse private shops) and i used to work at one! Its all about this textbook generalizations about fish care (i.e. cichlids are lumped all into one category). The pH always has to be neutral regardless of the fish you are keeping. 1" OF FISH PER GALLON!!!! Oh my i could go on...

Call me a snob but i will shut down (nicely of course) any employee that has an elitist attitude about their misinformation.

Refusing sale is great for the noobs and ignorant people out there, but sometimes they overstep their knowledge boundaries.

Just tell them you have separate tanks next time. I bought my GT from petsmart; the guy asked how big my tank was, which was 29 gallons at the time (75 now) Luckily they only need 20 gallons, so they let me buy it.

ya i realize its all about not gettnig returns but with the mark up on the fish and them refusing my sale they would make more money risking my return of the fish(which i would never do if it was my fault)

had the same thing happen they would not sell me two cichlids because they were aggressive and could not be together or another time i was gana get a oscar they told me he also could not be with other fish because they were being fed feeders. dont blame the ppl i blame to ppl who hire them!!!

my local petsmart wont even put an aggressive label on their fish, when some of them like, the needlenose gar and a JD, need it. its not their right to not sell you the fish, although they do tend to ask how big the tank is. but then again these are the same people who told me that a koi works well in 5 gallons....... and i flat out told her no.

i work at petsmart I woulda made the sale.. Their store missed out on your cash and was a lose lose situation id say.

That big enough tank she should've had enough sense.

and if you want it just pick it up or have a friend do it its simple you can really truly get anything you wanted it you tried.

I made the same buy at my Petsmart. I bought a 3" Bala for my 150 with a few 2" cichlids. (about 4 months ago) They didn't even raise an eye after I told them my tank size. The fish are still happily living in the tank, I actually sometimes think that the bala thinks that it's a cichlid too, just from the way it acts. :)

He lives with a Jaguar, a JD pair, FH, baby RD, and a Pleco.
