petsmart deathtrap!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have actually had pretty good luck with my local petsmart. much better than a few of the LFS around here.

Another funny point. The Pet Supplies Plus around me just got a new guy working there who has taken their fish department to a new level (pretty good, I'd say...) I will actually get fish from there now.

It all depends upon who works there, their work ethic, and who really cares.

Got to agree with most other posts, if they lasted a month how can you blame the store. I have lost fish from many dif stores, but usually only when I did not carfully pick the healthiest ones there or took home fish against my better judgment and did not wait for better quality. My Petsmart here has some real dummy's working there but most of the livestock is very good, there prices are very reasonable, and if you know who to talk to they do know what they are doing. Wal mart is the only store that I would say ALWAYS SUCKS. Anyways, as long as you learn from each experience things will only get better. Good luck in the future.

Yep, Petsmarts and Petcos around me aren't that bad either. The employees tend to know nothing, but if you know what you're doing before you go in, the fish are usually in pretty good condition. Like everyone else said too, the chain stores are not to blame if they are lasting anywhere near a month. Is the tank newly set up and cycled properly? Could be you are adding the fish too fast and the water quality is going south.

I wonder why Walmart has a 90-day guarantee??

PetSmart's is 14 days.

My LFS is 7 days.

hmmmmmmm... :y220d:

im not blaming anybody im just a little curious(or should i say leary) about my local petsmart. the only fish i have ever lost has been from this one petsmart. these fish were in with other fish from other stores which are still very much alive! hell, one time i went in there and pointed out to the fish department "experts" that 3 tanks had sick or dead fish in them! YOUR ALL RIGHT, its my fault for buying fish there., but if i killed my petsmart fish why didnt i kill the other fish in with them? i do not doubt i bought sick fish now.

I have used a guarantee once. I just don't have problems with many stores, because I select fish that are obviously healthy. The local Petco has tons of fish that are sick, and i rarely buy there, but the fish I do buy are still alive because they were healthy to begin with. Inspect fish carefully before you buy.

I've never had a Petsmart problem. I've actually had worse luck with some LFS fish.
