Petsmart feeders?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Im lucky the petsmart near me has the best feeders in town , never had a problem with them . and as a plus my wife works there so she hand picks them for me :D

I don't QT and I do. I keep all the feeders in a ten gallon tank at a temp the can tolerate. I do feed immediatly when I get home. I also feed other cichlids when possiable. Now I go to Petsmart and PetCo. and I will say I have lost one Small cichla recently before that (0). There is a but, I figure if your running your temp that you keep your cichla in at the suggested temp then you increase your odds and chance that you will not see any sign's of ich. I have seen HITH but i mostley contribute this to STRESS in both the fish that I have owned recently. In the past I believe I seen it my tanks because of lack of diet and no variety. But were talking CICHLA here and I bet for sure LIVE is better anyday. So I will always take my chance's but as mentioned by the other members look at them and Qt them if in doubt.

keep your water at 87 and there won't be any problems

My petsmart has relatively healthy feeders, I always try to get some when they have had them in the stock tank for a while so I know that they aren't diseased. Planning to breed my own though, just to be safe.

okay, let me ask anyone here-how do you know you have never had a problem?diseases such as hole in the head or fin/tail rot take time to show themselves and usually when it does you have a very slim chance of saving it from killing the fish. All I am saying is be careful and set up a feeder tank even if its 2.5 gallons and let them get healthy-treat em even and make sure they dont kill your pride and joy(s).After months/years of growing a monster it isnt worth losing it with something that costs next to nothing(feeders)

Imo, the best way you can avoid something like that is to breed your own feeders, also economically better for you. Then you can also gut load the feeders to make them more nutritionally complete.:headbang2

I wouldnt buy feeder fish from feeder tanks, just get guppies or rosey reds that arent marked as feeders and QT them for a while, more of chance that these fish wont be carrying any dieseases..

is your water 87+ degrees.. if so there should be any problems

I don't trust feeders anywhere. Pellet food is so much better anyways.
