Petsmart heater

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They had no problems taking the heater back and thought it was the most insane story ever that my fish broke the heater until I showed pics of my baby fish... They offered to let me swap up to a marienland one for the $8 difference but instead I went next door and spent a buck on what will hopefully be a solution to keep the fish from burning themselves and from them getting as much force into their blows on the glass. My only worries is that they will break the heater when I'm gone.

My heater doesnt nearly get hot enough to burn a fish on contact. If your fish are slamming into everything in your tank and breaking ish, there is obviously something wrong with your set-up.

Sure blame the setup if you want.

There very skittish and very bull headed... I had one that was rubbing itself on the heater constantly before I planted plants for it to swim in. The other canidate is also half blind and since there both the runts of the tank I think its mainly based on those problems.

Fish can be violent at times, I don't think there's anything wrong with the setup. It doesn't take much effort for a big fish to slam into a glass heater and break it.

Heater burn happens a lot in with fish, especially those that aren't that active. Resting next to a heater will cause a burn. This happens a lot to rays, thats why many suggest putting the heater in the sump or getting a heater guard.

I have a TOP fin Heater still works fine. The only return complaint I had with petsmart was squashed after a 2 minute talk with the manager. I think they are great about tier products and returns. I bought a 55 gallon kit, I got it home and there was no filter bag, for the top fin hob 60; they gave me a slight problem then gave me a bag, no biggie.

Then 3 weeks after I bought it the ballast went out on the fixture, they tried to tell me to bring the whole kit tank and all back. I was like no way am I tearing this down for a fixture, I argued with the person at the counter. Finally they got their manger "Now a friend of mine" he said no problem bring the fixture we will replace it. He said they have had multiple complaints about this from the same shipment. So I had no problem but I was erked but the employee that kept trying to spit out something they read in a handbook. Everyone knows there are rules, and exceptions to them and any business that succeeds knows these exceptions.

I buy all equipment and food from Petsmart and fish form a real fish store.

The person at the register was just doing his/her job PER the handbook. Don't hassle him/her because they want to keep their job.

I'm glad you got everything fixed up though.

I use hagen tronic heater guards that can be seen here in my tank to prevent a big fish from breaking my Ebo Jagers: your LFS should be able to get them for you and then you never have to worry about glass breakage again.

Nice tank :D

I'll start hunting for them in case the homade situation doesn't end up working but most of the time when I need something fish related it means an hour plus drive or ordering it. A 8.8 oz bag of hakari runs anywhere from $26-40 bucks here... I doubt its the gold plated kind either. :irked:

I agree that they where, however as I mentioned what makes a good employee is know when there is a situation that warrants an exception. While that employee might not have been able to provide the exception, their response should have been "It's normally done like XXXX, but let me get my manager."
I mean honestly we are not talking about a dog house here, where I just don't want to take it apart. We are talking about an aquarium which is the only house a fish can live in. Where would they suggest the fish go while I take the tank down? is that whats best for the animals putting them in a bucket for hours and hoping they live?

I can tell you now I would loose my job for doing what that employee did. I work in a place where if you can't see the situation and do whats best for everyone; your fired.
