Petsmart, Petco, etc, complaints

I would like to point out that there is a lot of hypocrisy in the scorn that chain stores suffer.
My local speciality shop (for example) keep fish in 15 or 20 gallon aquariums for the most part. The numbers they keep in each is definate over stocking and that's a reality of the business. Petsmart is no different in aquarium size or over stocking methods.
People seem to think that because they are a store they are somehow immune to same risks and problems every other private aquarists suffer? Hate to burst your bubble but, no, they're not and if you know anything about the hobby; you know there is no way around this.

Next thing you know, you'll be called cruel and inhumane because you keep a dog. And you know...they're pack animals. So, honestly! how could you do such a thing to your dog!? ;)

Pack animals? PAlease!

Canis Lupis (Grey Wolf) ,Canis Rufus (Red Wolf), Canis Aureus (Golden Jackal) Canis Adustus (Striped Jackal) & Canis Latrans (Coyote) may all very well be pack animals. Domestication is exactly what has bred the "Pack" mentality from the Canis Familiarus (DOMESTIC Dog)

No, they are NOT pack animals and will perish quickly in the wild in groups regardless of the sub-species makeup mixed or pure. That simple!

You sir have clearly never been on an isolated Indian reservation. Wild dogs, escapees or just ditched in the wild, sure as hell pack up. On some of the res' I've been on you either needed to carry a gun or fireworks because packs of wild dogs attack people on the regular. I have family that is 100% Cayuga natives, so I visit their res in upstate NY once a year at least. If your walking at night in a small group you start hearing rustling in the bushes, followed by eye shine, and when we spotlighted them I realized it was a variety of dogs making up the feral packs. Golden retrievers, German Shepherd, pit bulls, even some border collies and coydogs. All of em would eat you alive of you let it happen. A 3 shot volley into the ground scares em off, unless rabid.... God forbid you walk your dog at night. That's the main casualty of the attacks, mainly pets but some children have been gotten pretty good

I go to Petsmart/Co a decent amount, that's because the only local LFS in a 15-20 mile radius is soo crappy, i just dont buy anything there
Tho there is a nice LFS near my college campus. W/e the store is, there's good ones and bad ones

Yeah, sorry. We're going to have to disagree with you there. Domestic dogs are not packs because the opportunity does not present itself. Ditch enough of those animals and those that survive -will- and have quite predictably packed together. That's not to say -every- dog or group of dogs would pack, but dogs in general are pack animals. Domestic or otherwise.

+1 I have seen a feral pack of Chihuahua frequently when I lived in Baker, CA. I know a lot of you guys are gonna laugh and not believe me, but im being 100% honest.

Oh my lord. Those dogs would learn to stay away from my house quick *loads airsoft gun* lol. That or bear mace that's another a common thing used against wild dogs on the res. Or a swift kick theyre so tiny haha

I just heard about the Chihuahuas too, it sounds kind of like people are afraid to defend themselves against them because they don't want to be seen abusing a small animal.

As for the OT, the petsmart by me is actually one of the nicest places by me to buy fish. Their tanks are always cleaner and not as overstocked as the LFS. The people who work in that dept all actually keep fish and are quite knowledgeable, the petco a couple blocks over is a different story though.
