I've heard from many that petco and petsmart goldfish (commons, comets, and shubunkins) are bad quality etc.

How are the healths of them? Can these quality goldies live past 10 years?

They can live just as long as any goldfish I would say, health of the individual fish depends on the Petco and on the region. Goldies at petco in DC come from segrest farms in florida. I'd say they are definitely mass-produced to the max, but it would be difficult to find any fancy goldfish which aren't.

Most goldfish comes from the same places. And most of those places focus more on quantity over quality. They aren't "bad" but there are a lot of lfs that get the same stock. However, there are LFS and Pond Suppliers that can specialize in Goldfish and/or Koi. Usually those places will get their stock from local and/or quality breeders which in turn will fetch a pretty penny.

My father had feeder goldfish in his pond that lived over ten years and some grew into pretty beautiful specimens for what they were.
