Petsmart Pleco ID!

The L-??? that petsmart labels as the "Hifin Plecostamus"...what is its proper ID? I've had one for about 6 months, and shes about 7". I've just been treating it like a sailfin. what is it? link to picture ^^^

haha guess i should trust myself more often. it just doesnt really look like the species they have listed here on the stickies as a 'sailfin'

petsmart sells 2 different species labeled as "hifin spotted" pleco. i'd have to see your pic to tell you for sure, but it is either a pterygoplycthys gibbiceps (sailfin pleco L-083) or a pterygoplycthys joselimaianus (gold spot L-001). i've also seen them sell several different species labeled as "common" pleco.

this is Tebow, my petsmart "hi-fin" pleco. I wound up with a L001 goldspot.

this was him at around 8"

and now he is in my 220g pushing 13"+

that is a stunning L001. was he about 2" when you got him from petsmart?

Around 2" total length. This is what he looked like when I got him

He was barely larger than a slice of zuccini

i have to get some new pictures of my gibby from petsmart and my gold spot. both are around 7" now.

here's the L001 at around 5"

and the petsmart L083 at around 6"
