i got both of these plecos from the high fin spotted pleco bin.. the larger was 9 inches before he went to a LFS in a 110 gallon display tank.
the second i still have he is 5 years old and about 6 inches long...not a normal sail fin.

Thatb L001 should be a lot bigger than 6" in 5 years. Mine isn't even 3 years old and he is 13"+

mines an L-083 for sure. couldnt post a pic, sorry

Well then congrats on the Gibby. It is obviosly the larger of the 2. Hopefully you have a large tank lined up. Make sure to feed him a varied diet including meaty foods and plenty of veggies. He will be A beautiful monster before you know it.

it was Id as a Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus.... maybe it "should be" but it is well cared for and just does not seem to be growing. he might be closer to 7 but i doubt it.

I meant no disrespect, and by no means was I doubting your ability to care for your fishy friends. I apologize if it came off that way. I was just surprised because mine was around 8" in the first year. Yours looks very fat and happy, I guess its just a smaller specimen.

with all this petsmart pleco talk i had to stop by and see what my local one had in stock. i ended up leaving with another baby p. joselimaianus.

Pterygoplichthys joselimaianus top out at 12" SL.

According to PC you're right, however I measured mine when I moved about 2 months ago and it was a little over 12" SL. I haven't even had it 3 years and it is still growing. I know msmasspoly has one proving PC wrong too. This isn't the 1st case of misinformation from them. I still love the website though. Hands down the best pleco site!

That does not come from PC. There have been no recorded P. joselimaianus over 12".

none taken...i just didnt want you thinking i was not taking care of him..i was afraid he was stunted because he was growing so slow ..he has seem to all but stopped growing the last year..not sure what is up he gets fed a large variety of food and is in a well kept planted tank..dunno i had a thread about him asking if he was stunted and all the replys..by some mods even said he was fine..so hes just tiny witch is good for him or he would of gone to the LFS with the larger one.

how big does L-083 realistically top out at? I'm really hoping he grows to be massive, he's moving tank in 2 weeks to a 110g, where I'm hoping he has a decent rapid growth spurt. currently is about 8".. he better not max at a foot =/ although im sure that fin is impressive once hes that size. Hopefully he gets 18-20"+.. my next pleco growout is going to be a common. see how big i can get one of those. goal is to beat 19" in captivity. =)
