Probably the Poly section
ok well i went into petsmart, ugh, the other day and noticed how many fish they sell that require special care or huge tanks, like: oscars, leoporinus, pacu, bala sharks, tinfoil barbs, and on their website it says they also sell: clown knifes, black ghost knifes, jaguar cichlids, midas/red devil cichlids, spiny eels, and they even sell brackish fish: columbian shark catfish, indian glass fish, dragon goby, and more. so do you think it would be possible to get petsmart to make a new category, they allready have goldfish, african cichlids, new world cichlids, semi aggressive, and community. to add RED to the list? it would be the fish needing special care, like the bala sharks, whichi i have seen hit 14" in captivity, and in ponds easily 16" and oscars, along with the ever famous pacus, leoporinus, and the other species i mentioned. and to also get them to add a brackish category for the shark cats, glass fish, and gobys, among others like mollies even. just an idea i had. all input is welcome

I thinks they should have a section for big fish or at least get proper correct info cards, TBH I don't think they should sell Pacu. Mine get a new stock every 1-2 weeks and I know that they are not going to people that can actually house them for life. As for brackish at least they do list that they require salt on the info card. But actually I really like my petsmart, they keep their fish really well and far better than petco and of course walmart.

oh yeah better then walmart and the petco that carries nothing but neons and goldfish, cause the rest are dead. but i guess going to a lfs that i say whats your best fish, and he says well, how about...next thing ya know i am walking out with an ornate pim catfish( my ultimate dream fish ) and thinking next time ill go look at the cichlids, that only have scientific names listed or thoos little fish that when he drops in a live crawdad its gone in 15 seconds(exodons) has kinda spoiled me for good fish. but they just gotta do something about people buying things like bala sharks and pacu, mine runs out of balas monthly , and they have 3 10 gallons full of them.

the best they can do is update the cards...other than that Petsmart is the only store some people have. You have to think that experts of some sort were behind the information though....who knows.

ya but really why cant they make another category, think of all the lives they would save, and the money people would save on not buying new tanks all the time, cause petsmart lied. and ya its scarey to think that some "experts" somewhere think that a bala shark only needs a 55. i have seen them hit 16" in ponds!

Yes, I agree they need to really look at what they are actually selling and label them appropriately. The Petsmart near me sells RD/Midas like they are going out of style - I swear I have even seen Trimacs in there too. I'm not sure which is scarier. Sure, go ahead and sell them, but they really need to impress upon the consumer that these fish NEED adequate tank space very very quickly and that they do not play nice with ANY other fish.

to me in order to be a pet owner you should actually know something about what youre buying. If you buy an oscar for a 20 gallon tank, thats your fault just as much as the vendor. The goal is not to drive away sales, it is profit...sorry the business world doesnt care about feelings...they are selling probably the most owned or sought after fish

When I was small I had a bala in a 55, but I realized they were getting cramped at 10 inches so I gave them a 90 gallon. I am so glad I did that.

Small tanks don't kill fishies
People that put fishies in them do

Simply put...they would lose sales if the people were awre of the potential size.
