One thing I don't agree with the big box stores on. IMO, any tank over 55g (and that's pushin it) is too heavy for a particle board stand.

Got to agree with this one and not just from PetSmart. I personally wouldn't put any tank on a pressed wood stand. Yes it says moisture resistant but most have unfinished interiors and it doesn't take much.

actually to correct myself & for the record, i bought it from Petco, not Petsmart; same difference.

ive had a 29g, 90g and a 150g on particle board stands. the 150g stand is old, built like a tank, and is perfectly fine. if your getting enough water on a stand to make it "rot" then your just being careless, or you got bigger problems to worry bout than the stand, like a leak.

spill some water, wipe it up. particle board that has been finished doesnt explode in a matter of seconds.

but with that said, i would never build a stand out of particle board.

eh, potato... potaato? (don't really know how to do phonetics on a board) most chain stores and a large number of indie stores are guilty of it. Particle board has a huge number of uses (ikea anyone?), but holding large boxes of water shouldn't be one of them. I am guilty, but once I move and get my tools set back up I will be remedying it.

How long did it take to saturate after the water came in to contact with it ?

Sounds like a big problem to me buddy... Hope you take this up with petco :nilly:

Good luck :)

I also have a petsmart stand. Its a POS but it does look really nice I think. Its way to flexiable I find. For moisture resistant, its ok. Not the best. I find that if water sits on the finish for to long it will bubble up but usually I don't have issues.

The bottom I can see having issues as I don't believe there is a finish on the very bottom of the legs/feet what ever your stand has.
