Petsmart

Just like every store, there are pros and cons. The pros don't always outweigh the cons is the main problem most of the time though.

PetCo/PetSmart are great in the fact that they are like the Walmart of the pet industry. Cheaper prices on the same products that are otherwise annoyingly too much. Availablity of more items, and the convience of bein able to find just about anything you want in one place.

The down side is that since its so large scale, normally its the animals that suffer from lack of attention, namely the fish. Granted they aren't all that bad, I have bought NUMEROUS fish from a PetCo/PetSmart that have thrived and flourished for years.

Its all about presentation and dedication of the employees that work their. If they care about their work, and the animals that they work with, then normally it shows. :)

I would have to disagree with the prices, the fish, although i would be pissed if they closed as they are close so i only 50/50 agree with you

i personally dont buy fish from petsmart but there is a one i do go to quite abit because of a guy that works there, he is one of the smartest fish guys i have ever meet its in smokey point wa. i wish i could remember his name so i could give him his props. he has i think 3 tanks 125 and bigger at his home. any question i ever had before i found mfk he could awnser

petsmart or petco prices arent better than the lfs i go to. and petco wouldn't even let me buy fish cause i'm under 18! not even some feeders!

In general this is actually a good thing, because kids will go into stores buy stuff, then come home and their folks will say no, and then they return them (or worse). that's actually responsible business practice. I'd do the same if I ran a store that dealt in live animals

Just to be politically correct...wal mart is the wal mart of the pet industry. ;)

I think the good ones are far and few between when it comes to the chain stores. The majority i have been in are pretty bad, but thats what you get when you mix live animals with a corporation. I am fortunate enough to have a few decent LFS around that i like to support. Even if the petsmart around here was decent, there is no way i'm giving them any money.

I think most people here are more upset about the knowledge of a chain rather than their prices. I myself will always be looking for bargains which ultimately means I can't support the Mom and Pop store all the time, especially with big equipments such as filters. When it comes to buying fish, it goes to the Mom and Pop store, hands down. Tanks are something that you really have to look for. I find some deal are better at either places. The bigger the tank, the better the deals are at the Mom and Pops' and you can negotiate as well. Filters, heaters, food, decor, general equipment, etc. I have to give to the chain stores.
