petting fish

I don't purposely go out of my way to pet my fish, but while doing water changes, I'll hold my hand out and my silver aro will swim around and brush up against it. My oscar on the other hand won't let me touch him, lol.

nope.. i do my best to keep my hands out of the tanks..

I have a large Flowerhorn named Charles and he will most often let me pet him. Sometimes he will come nibble on my finger. It is always fascinating when you can have a fish with a distinctive "pet" personality. Thus the reason for naming him Charles. That and he has a big head so naturally I though of X-Men. Lol I can't see much harm in occasionally petting your fish, however I would make sure to wash my hands well so as not to transmit anything from me to him. Also if you think about the slime coating, there are many fish that are stripped completely so that some jackass can paint, inject, or tattoo a fish and in those cases the fish recovers enough for resale. :(

My loaches and my plecos all let me pet them. i put my hand in the tank and all the loaches climb onto it expecting food

used to have a 28" albino channel cat that used to rub up against my arm and swim through my hand when I was cleaning the tank. He was one of my favorite fish before he died, and yes I name all my fish, his name was Tweek.

Yeah when I found out that he would let me pet him I found myself cleaning the tank more often just so I would have an excuse to pet him but that just seemed to :swear:him off after a while lol.
