Petting/Loving My Alligator Gar

the thread did get way off track with the other animals. the point i was trying to make was the fact that we have domesticated many other animals, prey/predators, so why couldnt we domesticate a fish such as this. but i feel that perun said nothing out of line, or maybe i just didnt see it cuz it got edited or something. but either way, isnt the point of having a forum is so people can contrast and compare different ideas and ways of thinking?
 
I'm new the site and cam across this thread. I thought I'd get it back to the gar topic. lol. I have a 24" spotted gar the is very hand friendly as well. Lets me pet him and such. My baby spotted is still learning tho. Thinks my fingers are food. lol.

Actual Spotteds or are they Floridas?
 
according to everyone on here floridas dont get that large in captivity and according to some gov websites thats average for a wild florida. i dont know anything about the spotted growths. how old are these fish and tell us more detail about them
 
Well my baby gar I got on an order thru a store, so I know he is a florida. My bigger gar was a rescue. I had posted an add on Craigs list looking for unwanted fish and this guy contacted me saying he had an alligator gar that was way to big for his 55 gallon tank. I went there and took it home. Right away I saw that it wasnt an alligator gar, but a spotted gar. The previous owner didnt know its age or where it came from either as he had gotten it from a friend. This poor fish has been passed around like a bad cold. I just wanted to give it a great forever home, so I'm sorry but I do not have any more details on that one.
 
thats very interesting. oh, and let me welcome you to mfk. but do us a favor, since were all huge on pics. start another thread and post some pics of your gars. i think all of us that visit regularly have pics up. again, welcome!
 
I will certainly be getting photos up tonight. I literally just joined about an hour ago (lol) so I'm working on it. Thanks for the welcome tho.
 
pics are a pain to load. i think i go to this site called imageshak.com upload your photo there and then use the url link on quick reply box to post i. unless you know another way, just thought id throw that out there
