Petting/Loving My Alligator Gar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i'm guessing the gars in question are FL gars (already noted that the small one is), especially if it's been passed around from various sources...spotteds would have to come from the wild in almost all cases and there would likely be a traceable story with a spot.

getting to zspidel's comment on domestication...i'm not sure that any fishes are considered truly domesticated...comparing higher vertebrates and their domestication, such as cows (or other mammals) to lower vertebrates such as fishes just doesn't work. we have yet to do so with fishes in the same sense, and i doubt it will happen any time soon. if you were comparing two mammals, maybe...or birds...i'm not sure any reptiles are considered domesticated (you can train a gator or croc, but that doesn't mean it's domesticated).

i can't encourage people to do with their fish as is being done in the original posts, but we can't stop them either. it's just unfortunate that it's likely that when others try this they and their fish may be injured unnecessarily. just like how some people go on about hand feeding and petting their African lungfishes...perhaps if more people tried that, there would be less inclination to do so overall (eventually) --

If you start to talk about a 10-foot gator gar, I bet he'll be back the next minute.

I didn't get a chance to measure him yesterday, been a little busy lately.
I have to have my girl help me if we are to be accurate, I'll get it done soon.

just a quick note on the Perun situation,

apparently richard was not even notified as to why his account and all posts were deleted. this is BS. i hope the mod or "higher-up" who did this can speak up and let us know what their "reasoning" was.

also, the deletion of all his posts is a major detriment to this forum. i know he and i can provide information via other media and sites, but this was handled very poorly and i think we deserve a better explanation than what we have (which is essentially nothing) or that the powers that be just decided he needed to go.

let's not turn this site into water whelps or anything like that--

no, i spoke with Richard and i believe he should be given the explanation from the MFK party (or parties) responsible. as far as we know our main contact was not involved with this incident. --

yeah i agree he should be told what happend.

It looks so ridiculous when you read back the old threads. Having some of the posts pulled out makes them look so incoherent. I live in China and I see people’s accounts get deleted because they voice different political views all the time, but I have never once seen a post get deleted because of people voicing their own opinions in a hobbyist site. The mods should not just hide behind the screen without giving an explanation to justify their actions.
