After you think you've rinsed the sand well enough.. rinse it some more... i prefer the red flint "sands" personally... and go with a "course sand" dim... its fine enough my eels bury in it but not so fine its gets kicked inot my filters ect all the time. its also pretty easy to syphon threw, as its heavy enough not to get sucked up if your paying attention.

as long as it's not causeing "dust storms" i would say yes its safe...

Why pick just one? I use to keep a trio of fire eels with my gar prior, but I have found a single eel works best with my gar... I had a very bad experiance with PFS... but most people don't.

i go PFS for sure i got 14 inch fire eel, 13 inch TT, a pair of motoro stingrays and a 15 inch FMM stingray. Never EVER had an issue with it. Just make sure u rinse it well and remember like all sand to litterally vacume it like u would gravel. That action release gasses that will be traped in dead speace between sand particals that will over time build up. In most cases that build up of gasses is what kills fish by polluting the water.

All in all just vacume your tank and your gona be A ok with whatever u decide to go with for a supstate
