PH fluctuation questions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the advice, I will do more frequent water changes and see if that helps.

Just make sure you keep fish that can handle a pH that high! I wouldn't put anything from the Amazon in there except if it's been bred in Florida for many generations.

IMO a ph of 7.5-7.8 is completely fine to keep fish from a amazon. I've read about discus breeding in a ph of 8+

Absolutely! I was just referring to the fact that if you do water changes more often with incoming water at a pH of 9, then your average pH will be higher than it is now. But I still think that wild discus would have a tough time with a pH that high. Many of the discus here in FL breed at 7.6 but they have been adapted to that pH over generations!

Get a KH test kit and try to keep your kh between 80 and 200 PPM. Anything under 80 PPM is considered low. You can raise your KH by adding unscented, plain baking soda.

Read though my original post man. The average will not go higher only temporally higher.

I know the KH is on the lower side but more water changes will help that. Baking soda is a short term remedy and i dont need my water p's to be fluctuating any more than they are. thanks though.
