PH in tap water

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IIRC the dosing for prime is 1mL prime per 10 gallons of tap water. So in a 5 gallon bucket you'll be dosing 0.5mL prime. measuring 0.5mL is really not practical to most folks so i'd suggest dosing in a bigger container. Some people say adding water directly to your tank then adding chemicals can cause stress to the fish so i don't like to do it.

If you happen to overdose the water with prime i've read somewhere on this website that the prime will just evaporate out, be sure to have supplemental oxygen if you od your tank on prime.

as previously mentioned, it's better to get your fish used to the water rather than constantly trying to change the chemistry of the water. i'd venture to say that a lot of fish are already accustomed to the water you're using, just try to stay away from super sensitive fish. someone in a previous post mentioned discus, i've kept my discus in 7.8pH water for a long time without any problems. i've read on simply discus that aquarium breeds tend to be raised in harder water so when they grow up high pH isn't much of an issue.

good luck to you op!

You would add the prime BEFORE you add the water. The other way around and your just asking for trouble.
