ph level help

:cry: :cry: my new tank has been set up for 5 days and i washed the old filter in it from my establish tank to speed up the cycle . all the levels are great ecept the pH is 8.4 ? why is it that high and how can i lower it fast i want to switch some fish over to it tonight if possible
 
Put your fish in a bucket fill it about 1/4 the way with your old water. put your new tank water in like every 5-10 mins. make sure their is an air bubler/stone in the bucket so your fish stay alive. then when the bucket is almsot full dump the water in.
 
the water out of the tap is perfect i dont know what the hell is going on i just tested my 125gallon and it is at 8.4 as well .?????????????? why would it go crazy like that
 
Carbon dioxide.
Try this experiment ,test your tap water at room temp.leave the same glass of water sitting for 24 hours.If the ph jumps up from the first test theres co2 in your water supply giving you a low reading when it comes out.As the co2 outgasses the ph settles to its actual level.

Removing carbon dioxide from your water usually raises the pH slightly. CO-2 disolves as carbonic acid, which you have proven any time you laughed and got pop up your nose.

It seems strange that both tanks would have the same pH if something went wrong. Did you get a new test kit recently? Try having your water checked at the LFS just to verify your test kit is giving you an acurate reading.

What kind of fish are we talking about? Maybe a pH of 8.4 is OK?
