Ok so my well water has taken a turn and I have no idea how. My tap water is 6.8 before aged and settles at 8.2-8.3. Well this puts my ray tanks at 8.2 also. Far from ideal but will this ph be suitable? I have had big name breeders tell me they have kept rays in mid 8's and been successful. Will I be ok keeping my water at this ph? I do not want to try lowering as that will be a PIA! :( I have kept rays for years and now that I have $$$$$$ into them of coarse my water screws up! I have to age my water now which I never did and I am totally bummed. I will be doing 2000gallons in water changes per week and I dont have the storage for that much water grr! So main question is have any of you big ray keepers had success keeping rays in the low 8's in ph? PLEASE everyone chime in!

Just go with it, my tap comes out @ 8+ and never have had an issue with it. Much better than trying
to change it with chemicals and having it fluctuated.

Ya my city has 8+ and I have had no problems

My spa place tested mine 8.6 to 8.8. I've had pups there but definetly NOT on a regular basis. Marble patterns turned to crap, after moving them every single ones pattern got better. I think high PH has repercusions. Will it kill rays? Doubtfull. Could it kill the idea of breeding some of the tougher species? I think so.

If your goal is to breed then it should be addressed. Also if you're dumping money into them you NEED to be on a drip system. There may (and likely will) be times when shibby hits the fan and you need to "flush" ponds (300+ gallons/day).

You can always add acid. A little bit goes a long way.

I've been involved in discussions regarding mixing large amounts of water using vinegar to bring the PH down.

IF you have PH issues I think it's gonna prove to be a very difficult task to address the issue without room to mix the needed amounts of water. IF you're plannin on breeding rays I would think you'd need to have hundreds to even a thousand gallons of mixed water water on hand and ready to use at all times.

I'd never dive head first into attempting to breed expensive rays without first addressing ALL issues like housing, filtration, and water quality with less expensive rays.....

I've been messing with rays for several years and I still wouldn't feel comfortable enough with my systems and knowledge to fill my tanks with really expensive rays. Perfection takes time and can be VERY difficult to rush.

No problems with 8.2-8.4 ph and have had my rays breed lots of times. Even had a flower breed but she died before giving birth by the hand of another pregnant female. I tried the mixing tap and r/o and it is the best way to go when trying to lower the ph but the big problem with doing that is if you have to do an emergency waterchange will you have a big enough r/o unit to accomidate this? Best bet is to leave it at tap.
