pH Problems

What kind of sand do you have in your tank? It might be raising the PH.

Either way, I agree, if your fish are already doing well in the high PH there's no need to mess with it and you may be stressing them by doing so.
 
I'm not sure what kind of sand. I'll have to get back with you on that one.
 
Dwarf puffers need a high PH and can take about 7.6 to 7.8. Just invest in a bottle of sodium biphosphate Ph down to get it to that range.
 
water chemistry can get a little complicated (unless you paid a lot of attention in Chemistry class).

Provided that your sand is not lime based, using some peat will lower your water pH.
