PH Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That's like saying all fish need a ph around 7, just because it's neutral. I know Anubias would do quite well in that water. Vals, crypts, and ferns may also do quite well.

many plants can tolerate different levels of pH. the majority of the time they enjoy very acidic water but its really not a must..

if u are still worried about ur ph being to high i would recommend buying some Fluval peat moss for ur filter. this will safely reduce ur ph. it will last along time and u don't have to worry about adding it ever week like with PH downers...crap.

The pH for each plant is different, check a few online resources to get the "preferred" pH for the plants you like and go from there.

if you want and your set up is not done yet, you can add a layer of peat to the bottom of the 55 under the gravel, this will drop your Ph, but DO NOT CHASE YOUR PH! if you artificially try to keep your ph low you will have disastrous results sooner or later. I have seen fish melt because someone was trying to control the ph themselfs with chemicals, this is very not recommended. Your tank will find its own, just set it up get the lights going and you will see.
