First if you changed all your water and cleaned everything and got a new filter you may have a issue with recycling your tank. Test your tap, no ph chemicals you want to avoid swings in ph , test for kh cleaning is not a solution. If you do large water changes you will yo yo your ph that's whats killing your fish.

well I would only add a pitcher of water at a time when I had fish in it. That is normally the amount of water that would evaporate over a week or so. But I only do full water changes in between fish (when they all die). That is why I set up the new filtering system and all of the cleaning was done.

Well no wonder the fish died. You have to do 25-50% weekly/bi-weekly water changes, not just top offs. Looks like you get to research fish care the next few days :-)

yeah I have been reading all the basics, and I had a nice set up in this tank for over a year with the same 4 fish but once I moved it didn't work. I have a Chinese algae eater, guppy, and a betta for like 9 months then I added a cichlid and moved the betta for the last 4 months then they get sick. I have found out that I was doing nearly everything right just not on the right time frames.

Story of my life lol That's ok, everyone lives and learns. Just when you think you've got it down you find out something else you've been doing wrong. If everyone's honest about it, they'll admit it doesn't matter how long you've been keeping fish-no one ever knows it all.
