This 210g (265g w/filter) that we're setting up in the new office. It slipped my mind when designing the place to have them install me a wash sink in the maintenance room. They wanted couple thousand more to go back and install it after the work was already installed. So hooking up a RO unit there kinda out of the question. Folks place is just a mile down the road from new office, so it i possible to get a RO unit installed in their basement.

But are stingrays mainly motoro's that fussy about ph and hardness? we have hard water and ph of around 8.5. Originally i had planned to dilute it with 50% being RO water. but 132g worth of RO needing to be hauled in is quite a chore everytime a water change would be needed.

they could adapt to your water chemistry

THIS IS A VERY GOOD QUESTION...... I HAVE ASKED MYSELF THIS ALSO BECAUSE MY WATER IS AROUND THAT HIGH..... IT STINKS.....

It does suck, but was reading in some articles on rays, people have kept them at 8.0. Problem with diluting with RO water, is it has to be kept in check every week once maybe twice. And with the live food/raw foods they eat, polluts water faster.

Anyone ever try the chemical ph way? like ph down or something...

Chemicals will not be effective for controlling hard water. It is easy to raise pH but not to lower.

I HAVE DONT THE I/2 RO WATER THING ALSO....., IT IS REALLY HARD TO KEEP RO WATER STABLE..... THE BEST THING TO DO WOULD PROBABLY JUST HOOK UP A SEDIMENT AND CARBON FILTER UP TO YOUR DRIP SYSTEM..... THIS IS WHAT MANY HERE DO... THIS WILL HELP LOWER IT A LITTLE..... 8.0 IS ABOUT AS HIGH AS I WOULD GO.....

MIKE SHOULD COMMENT ON THIS..... HE IS LUCKY I THINK HE SAID IN A PAST THREAD THAT HIS TAP WATER COMES OUT AT LIKE 7.3 OR 7.5......, HES REALLY LUCKY....

It looks like I have oppurtanty to hook up a DI unit for under the sink after I got off the phone with guys who bring us drinking water. Am gonna run some tests after get that hooked up and see what happens to water with a 50% tap and 50% DI. Figure do it once a week til tank really begins to fill up with fish, only have stingrays on agenda for now.

the DI will need to be changed alot if you use it by its self hook up a ro/di if you want better results

If you are cleaning the tanks on a regular basis then I would suggest not using an RO at all. As said before the ammonia toxicity is greater in harder water, however the ray being evolved from a hard water (salt) fish isn't going to care. I know egg layers have troubles in hard water but I'm not sure what the effects would be if you had pups.
