I would invest in a good test kit that uses drops instead of test strips. I assume they work on the same basic principals but the strip can be less accurate.

okay ill go to my LPS which test kit do you recommend?

API Freshwater Master Kit, retails for about $30 and has approx. 800 tests per kit. Tests ph, High Range ph, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate levels.

I had my water tested a few weeks ago at petco with one of those strip tests. After the strip tests I had tests done with the drops that showed stuff the strips did not pick up. I had a little ammonia and nitrates barely appeared on the strip while in the API test it showed I was at 25-30 ppm. I'd recommend the drops as well.
