I used Pool Filter sand. It's heavier than most other sands. So the fish cant kick it up and the siphon doesnt even suck it up.

Tahitian moon sand is finer and will probably be kicked up more.
(plus its more expensive)

Pool filter sand was about $9.99 for a 50 lb bag.

Price is no object. I sold all my crappy photos, and now I am a millionare. LOL

So is Tahitian moon Ok for freshwater, or will it raise the ph?

That i dont know. But i assume if it's not crushed coral or shells, it wont mess with PH.

It should say on the bag if it is a buffer or not.

Thats good that $ isnt a problem

If you really want the Tahitian sand. Since you have oscars. YOu could cut the intake tubes on your filters like i did so they arent as close to the bottom.

You could also try wrapping sponge pre-filter around the intake nozzle to prevent small sand from entering your filter.
(of course, you'll always need to take them off to rinse them out so they dont get all clogged)

wow!! Big difference......

Way better by the third picture. I'm also gonna have to say take out the plant and add some drift wood.

then more pics........but it looks incredible.

Wow it made a hell of a difference with the sand.....i say take that plant out and put a decent sized piece of driftwood in its place and maybe another smaller piece where the oscar is in the third pic and it will look perfect........

I agree

i use aragonite sand and its grain size is almost that of pool filter sand

and my flowerhon still moves everything to one side of the tank :D

Obie Kaybie

As soon as the stupid driftwood gets water logged enough to sink. I'll put it in the tank. It's still too bouyant. (sp?)

Then i'll take that stupid plant out and take more pictures. :D
