uhm yeah... its dead... it was dead in that picture lol. I didnt plan on letting it sit in the garage uncertian if it was a black widow I wasn't sure b/c of the brown it had in it. I knew that there are some other spiders out there that have red markings too but the marking and shape looked like a widow to me, but wanted to make sure. Well... doesnt make me comfortable b/c thats the second one I have killed here (the first one I am guessing was female.. it was all black w/the red spot) =\ I sprayed down the entire garage.... and around the outside of the garage. I have woods in my backyard so that probably doesnt help. There is another weird spider in there too but he hides in a hole... I sprayed his web/hole but if he died...he died where I cant see him. I dont mind them...when they are outside.

Looks like a female Latrodectus mactans (black widow).

Nice pics though, I have to say.

those things will catch very large prey relative to the size of the web and the spider. i once saw a black widow that had caught and bit an adult anole. what made it even more eyebrow raising was that it was inside a functioning office

not a black widow.....

the spider is indeed in the widow family, but it is instead at brown widow: latrodectus geometricus.

the give away is the black knees on its lighter shaded legs.

very cool spider but there is absolutly no reason to kill it, just be aware of wherre it is and avoid it. it will be gone in about 4 weeks (they start laying egs around now and generally find a new lair afterward).

ive kept a few as pets too :) very cool arachnids.

Where's my torch. We've got a spider to deal with. LOL

I find these all the time.
