Hi guys,

I never posted in this section before...but I am into photography...but a complete noob at it... my current camera is a Canon 550D 18-55mm lense....

Could someone suggest a better lense...and portable lighting or something? My lights for my new aquarium ... (yet to be set up) is two T8's Fluro... Thanks

My avatar was taken with the default lense that comes with Canon 550D ... will all micro lens fit into my camera?

How long have you had your DSLR for now? coz honestly, i would learn to play around with your camera and stock lens more first before jumping onto another lens and adding lighting etc...

I spent a good year or two messing with my DSLR before jumping onto a new macro lens, coz even my friends who are photographers have said, no point having the all this equipment or the best gear if you don't know how to use the camera...

Mess with the settings, get a feel for how the camera works, what the best ISO and Shutter Speeds are for your lens and what you want to shoot etc, and then start adding equipment to your list... but thats just what i did, and would do again in a heartbeat... since you can honestly take some amazing pics with some crappy cameras now a days, but if you don't know how to shoot properly, even with the best camera you will still end up with crappy pics...

Just my 0.2 cents...

Almost a year now, but I completely understand your point. I have actually been thinking, to experiment more with the camera I have. Only recently I figured out how to consistently take blur background pictures. Made me realize how noob I still am! lol good advise homer!

Yeah messing with you shutter speeds and aperture can / will do that...

Another good idea is if possible, hook up with a friend who has some knowledge of DSLR's and choose a theme for the day and take some photos... at least then if you have questions you can ask your friend for advise right away... otherwise, joining a local photography club also helps if you don't have any friends who are into photography...

you can get the macro lens in my opnion you don't need a whole year to mess with the camera trust me it's a learn as you go kinda thing. Besides it's different settings for different lens. So get it if you can afford it in my opinion.

The only reason why i said its best to learn for a year first is so that you can get some decent knowledge on how that current body works and what settings work with that camera...

The more lens and equipment you throw in the mix, the more likely you'll get confused and take longer to learn the basics...

But thats just my take on things for an absolute DSLR beginner just getting into photography... if you've been using a DSLR or SLR for a while then obviously its a different ball game altogether...
