HiImSean...
celidochilus, vittata, minuano, cf. lepidota, Pseudoplatystoma coruscans, Sorubim lima, Hoplosternum litorale, Tracheliopterus galeatus, and
G. balzanii.
MTN PIKE... We caught two huge male cf.
lepidota that were 20-21cm SL. They are so wide and deep bodied, that they are massive compared to the slendor species. The largest pikes were a 28cm
C. scottii and a 30cm female
vittata. Yes,
celidochilus are beautiful fish, I've kept them since I collected the Cuareim in 2008. They look beautiful straight from the river too, and I think are one of the best at maintaining their colors in captivity. It wasn't a collecting trip, per se, but a research trip and Felipe was kind enough to help with the field work.
I can try to write a dialogue of the trip

We started in the headwater of the Rio Cuareim, the Arroyo de la Invernada (location of the Holotype of
celidochilus), then moved west (downstream) to the Rio Cuareim, west again to the Rio Cuaro (Tributary to the Cuareim), then collected from the flood plain lagoons of the Rio Uruguay at Bella Union, then collected from the Rio Uruguay at night, then travelled south to the Rio Yi.
It was the third time I have been, and was a very nice trip.
I do have a few more pics of the
vittata. I caught one with a cast net in a lagoon at Bella Union, Felipe & Alejandro seined one in the same place, then I caught a third with a cast net in the RIo Uruguay at night. Everyone speaks of
celidochilus, but I think
vittata are beautiful fish.
I think I will dedicate two tanks to middle Rio Uruguay biotopes. Hopefully the fishes will settle in and I can post more pictures soon.
Cheers,
Ed
