Physics of glass & acrylic

Hi
Many years ago I did that but with angle iron, painted very thickly. That tank is still working about 43 years later - BUT - I did it to save money on glass - and it did break - what a catastrophe. It was utterly amazing how much water came out of the tank, and how far and deep it went over the house.

When it broke, it cracked about halfway up. The top of the tank did not break and was well held in place by the metal.

Needless to say, when we replaced the glass, we went up a size - and that is why it is still there 40+ years later.
While it was breaking, and my prized fish were popping out on to the floor one by one, and the water was going everywhere, and people in the room were yelling I would have GLADLY paid the extra $$ for thicker glass!
