Man stop feeding him chicken!! They dont have the digestive system to deal with that ****! Try shrimp and cichlid pellets...they're both great for colouration

Great looing rhom tho dude

arent baby birds eaten regularly by piranha? I mean i wouldnt feed him kfc, but how bad could a little chicken be once and a while?

im confused...first you say "mammalian meat is no good" ok fair enough but then you say you feed your rhom the occassional mouse? and birds arent mammals...I believe the def. of a mammal is a warm blooded creature with hair that produces milk to feed its young...might be some other conditions i forgot but I know thats the jist of it.

Sorry if i seem arguementative, its not my intention. I just know for a fact that birds make up a pretty good percentage of at least pygos wild diet. Not sure about Serras but i would imagine its the same deal.

a piranha's diet in the wild consists of 97% fish and fish parts, so that definitely doesn't leave much room for birds to make up a pretty good percentage of their diet. piranhas are opportunistic, they will eat other things if the opportunity arises, but they are built to handle a diet of mostly fish, so it is best to provide them with a diet that is similar to what they would eat in the wild.

its well documented that red belly piranha gather under the nests of birds and wait for fledglings to fall into the water. Granted, baby birds are not born everyday and thus probably dont make up a high percentage of a piranhas diet (as to what i said before about a pretty good percentage...as low as 3%-5% is still significant) aside from that they regularly eat insects, crustaceans, and plant matter. I think the best diet for a captive piranha is one that mimics the variety afforded the fish in the wild, and should include whole foods like feeder insects and disease free feeder fish (the vegetable matter and other stomach contents of such feeder animals is an important source of nutrients that shelled shrimp or fish fillets could never provide).

im getting a little long winded here...but my point is that theres prolly nothing wrong with feeding raw chicken or giblets once and a while as part of a varied diet.

Not trying to cause an argument or anything but i say i feed him chicken (cooked of course, salmonella is not something i desire to give him!) say once every month or so. He seems to enjoy it most of anything i feed him. I am by no means an expert on these fish and only got one because my friend has one. He has had his for years and reguarly (again every month or so) feeds his chicken as a treat. Niether fish has come to any harm so i don't see a problem with it. Also in the vast rivers these fish live in are you seriously trying to say the a predatory fish is going to turn down a nice meaty bird carcuss that may have drowned/died?
