hi all,

even thought i was told that i could have problems with compatability
i picked up a 3 inch scone to add to my 125 gal community tank yesterday. i have a 5inch silver arowana,7inch baja shark,4 inch upside down cat, 2-3inch neon gouramies, and 2 smaller cories.

it is a planted tank with plenty of water movement. tank is 6x18x24 with plenty of room . i do weekly 25% water changes, i think that should be ok.

i do have co2 inj on a ph controller and i keep it at 7.2 temp at 78. when the lights go off i have a powerhead diffuser and 2 airstones i run to add o2.

i have a d.o meter that i test with frequently. during the day is tests aroung 7.5 and around 6.8 in the morning. should be good levels for the scone i think.

i add a dozen guppies feeders when i put him in, thats what he was being fed, i cant tell if he ate any yet. the only bad this is there are quite a few hiding places and as soon as he was added he dissapeared behind some plants. ill try to keep an eye on him over the weekend. see if he eats.

i have a little while before i have to worry about the cories getting picked on. the should be fine i think?

can anyone offer any advise?:screwy:

ive read a few posts about adding salt with a scomb. would this be a good idea? and keeping temps around 80deg.

if so how much should i add and how often.

will this bother any other fish that i have?

payara generally dont feed on fish that are on bottom levels cos they like to swoop up and over on them from below. that said small scombs can swallow fish that are longer than their heads.

scombs like to hide in cover, it's normal. mine are 7" and still do that.

i keep salt in the water on constant basis and they are fine. infact imo would do so because they have weak skin.

heard some species of catfish dont like salt but trying to get the details myself.

on the salt it's something like teaspoon or tablespoon per gallon, so you better check. Lots of opinions on this. It's not an exact science, just keep an eye on their breathing. if you want to get anal, i believe salt affects PH and hardness so can be mindful of this as well.

1~2ppt should be fine for Scombs.
Mad ness, sorry I've probably got this wrong, but what's "if you want to get anal"?
