Picked up 4 new Bachyplatystoma Juruense!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Nice pickup. Mine is almost 12" now, and growing like a champ. Mine doesn't really like the company of the filamentosum that's in with him though. He always bites the tail of him. He also grows much faster than the filamentosum. Try your best to ween them off live at an early age, as it's now glaringly obvious that mine doesn't want anything but live. Same thing with the filamentosum. Seems like most Brachyplatystoma species are like that though. Takes an extra long time imo to ween. Hopefully you'll have four huge jurs in the future to brag on. I'm hoping mine will hit the 30" mark altough it's very rare except in the wild. Good luck!

Sweet! I am going to try one more time to grow one. i had 2 and lost them both within 2 months. no time like the present guess I better start looking for one.

wow, purdy!!
if i ever see one, im buying it!!:D
oh, and keep us updated;)

well for an update have bad news lost 3 of the 4 to ick tried everything but they didnt make a come back the other one i got to eat dew worm peices out of my tweezers so i am keeping my fingers cross for this guy!

I don't know if this will help but in the past its worked for me. When we would bring them in the store we'd train them to eat black worms in a syringe.3-4 times a day we would take a plastic syringe and draw up some black worms . I would push them out enough so that they were just hanging out the edge of the syringe and wave them around his snout. It doesn't take much and they start gobbling the worms down. They've always been pretty easy to train this way and we would keep feeding them up past 6 inches. Sorry for your loss though. I hope this helps.

I did the same exact thing with both of mine you are talking about they wer fine for a couple of weeks then all of the sudden no matter what i did they just wouldn't eat no matter what i did.

Sorry for the loss. hope the last one makes it ok. I miss mine. Ate like a champ, pulled through a nasty bout with ick and then got eaten by the aro. Someday I'll look for another.
