Picked up a 1.5" electric sausage;)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Haha thanks. Only felt a little tingle when I first netted him for the tank. Other then that he is very curious and swims around my hands no problem. Kind of the main reason I wanted a tiny one from the start, less shock and easier to handle haha.

That might be the case now but things can change.

Are they really that dangerous at small sizes, and how realistic is keeping one longterm without getting shocked to heck?

The reason i ask is there is a tank full of them near my place and i was curious, not interested but wondered how nasty they get.

Not really dangerous at this size. Shocks consist of a light pulse through the arm. Doesn't hurt at all. As they get larger the shock does become stronger but it depends on temperament of the fish. Some are nice, others are out to get you haha

What is the species you got? I am unfamiliar with electric cats. Good find though!

Awesome grab! I love these fish. I got mine when it was a bit larger than yours, but it's long since grown past me feeling comfortable enough to hold it like you're doing in that pic. He was the easiest fish to hand-feed though... probably because he's a fat catfish.

Can't wait to watch this guy grow into a fat little monster!

Thanks! Yeah, I'll work on hand feeding here in a few weeks. I can usually get all my cats to hand feed pretty quickly haha.
