The blue jd is a mix of a normal JD and an african electric blue ahli, thats why he grows so slow and they are just as aggressive when they get to full size.

:screwy: yeah don't think so... blue jd is just a recessive gene within the JD species, has nothing to do with breeding with africans

That was one of many theories. Some people think they are hybrids, others thing its a genetic variation. I think its a recessive gene as well, others believe they are just normal jd's that are really cold!

I thought it was a recessive gene also, never actually heard of the theory of breeding with electric blue Africans before, but I can see how that theory came about. :)

Thanks guys!

So I just noticed that one of the JDs has white stringy poop. (good thing they are in a isolated/quarantine tank)

I have lot of meds on hand since I always try to be prepared for my discus'.

With Discus' this is usually a sign of internal parasites. Although I am not sure if this would be nematodes, or protozoan, I do have meds to treat for both.

However, could it also be bloat which would seem to point to antibiotics?

Any inputs appreciated... :)

Very nice looking fish, I too like the fifth pic.

Yeah recessive gene...otherwise 2 EB would mate just fine. And breeding and acquiring EB wouldn't be so hard if all it took was simple 1 and 2 breeding. This is why Flowerhorns are so expensive too. Especially Super Red Texas so hard to get the right variations. Even certain purebreds are very tough to breed and hence the HIGH prices for these particular cichlids

Any suggestions for the white stringy poop?
